Giving things away is one of the most effective business strategies going. It might well seem that to give people things for free would be the opposite of good business, that it would be counter-intuitive and leave you with higher losses and no profits. However this is a short sighted view and it ignores the opportunities that lie in giving things away.
Many businesses work entirely through giving their products away for free. Take for example newspapers that are given away for free and that make their money entirely from advertising. These are handed out in the street and people take them because it’s something free to read on the tube – they have nothing to lose. As a result that then means that the papers haves circulated far more widely than they otherwise would have. The simple fact that the paper reaches so many people then gives it huge value, and the advertisers are willing to pay large amounts to appear in those papers.
